Lawyer convicted in assault case
A Howard County judge convicted a Baltimore attorney who is a Howard County resident of second-degree assault this week for twice hitting a man with his car as the victim tried to serve him divorce papers outside his daughter's Clarksville day care center.
Barron L. Stroud Jr., 40, a partner with McCarter & English, fled without calling police, Circuit Court Judge Lenore R. Gelfman found. Sentencing on the count, which is a misdemeanor, is scheduled for October.

Macca kills chance of "amicable" divorce with "hostile step"!
London, July 30 (ANI): Sir Paul McCartney's move of filing for divorce from estranged wife Heather Mills has left little chance of the split being "amicable", insists a top divorce lawyer.
A friend of the 'Beatles' legend revealed that Macca filed for divorce because he wants to put his bad marriage in his past and move on quickly.
"Paul just wants to get this over as quickly and cleanly as possible and put the whole sorry episode behind him," the Mirror quoted the pal, as saying.
The pal also added that the singer has stipulated in the papers that there be no "tears and tantrums" on Mills' part.
"He has stipulated there will be no tears and tantrums, just a clean break," the friend said.
However, divorce lawyer Kevin Harris-James said that the singer's "hostile step" had left little hope that the break-up would be "amicable", and that the couple could bow be giving evidence against each other in court as their divorce becomes uglier.
Shop will leave its art in San Francisco
The on-again, off-again relationship between San Jose's Redevelopment Agency and its tenant at the Fourth Street Garage, Artist & Craftsman Supply, now appears headed for divorce.
After several months of negotiations for a new one-year lease with San Jose, owner Larry Adlerstein has decided to move his San Jose store to San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood. He's already signed a lease for a new location near Columbus and Chestnut Streets, close to three art schools.
In May, it appeared that the San Jose Redevelopment Agency's deputy executive director, John Weis, had succeeded in working out a deal with Adlerstein to stay in San Jose despite Adlerstein's frustration with the slow pace of negotiations and years of financial losses. Adlerstein's employees had painted the store's big windows with the words, ``Show Us the Way OUT of San Jose,'' and left it up for a few weeks, but they erased the sign after a deal seemed imminent.
Bormann advises flu vaccines as key to winter health
HUMBOLDTHave you heard this one? Apparently, if you go to bed with wet hair, youll catch pneumonia. And everyone knows you should feed a fever and starve a cold. And only a nutjob would get a flu vaccine thats a good way to catch the flu!
Not quite, says Emily Bormann of Humboldt Countys Home Care Connection.
The rumor about catching influenza from the vaccine is understandable in order for you to create the proper immunity, elements of the three influenza viruses are introduced into your bloodstream but its a dead version, incapable of actually causing you to catch that seasonal annoyance that causes fever, sore throat and muscle pains.
Three common strains of the flu have already reached Iowa, and if you want to survive the prime season, which goes from February through March, without the agony of influenza, your best bet is to roll up your sleeve and take your medicine.
Kidd revises divorce papers
HACKENSACK -- Jason Kidd filed an amended complaint for divorce from his wife, Joumana, on Friday that omits the allegations of "extreme cruelty" that dominated the petition he submitted Jan. 9.
Instead, the New Jersey Nets point guard cited "irreconcilable differences," taking advantage of a law that Governor Corzine signed last week. Under the old law, one spouse had to charge the other with misconduct, or the parties had to live apart for 18 months before divorcing.
